Global Business Company (GBC) formations typically take 7 to 10 working days once compliance documents are cleared and submitted to the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and Registrar of Companies (ROC).
What is the corporate tax rate for a GBC? +
The standard corporate tax rate in Mauritius is 15%. However, GBCs can claim an 80% partial exemption on specific foreign-source income (like dividends and interest), resulting in an effective tax rate of just 3%.
Do I need local resident directors? +
Yes. To establish tax residency and access treaty benefits, a GBC must demonstrate economic substance. This requires appointing at least two resident directors in Mauritius and holding board meetings locally.
Can a GBC help me get a Mauritius residency visa? +
Yes. Shareholders and investors in a GBC can apply for a Mauritius Investor Occupation Permit, which is valid for up to 10 years and allows you and your dependents to live in the country.
What is the corporate tax rate for an Authorized Company? +
Authorized Companies are treated as non-resident for tax purposes in Mauritius. This means they are completely tax-exempt (0% corporate tax) on all income generated outside of Mauritius.
Where can an AC conduct its business? +
By law, an AC must have its central management and business operations outside of Mauritius. It cannot trade with Mauritius residents, deal in local currency, or hold local real estate.
Do I need a local director for an AC? +
No. Unlike a GBC, an Authorized Company does not require resident directors. You only need a licensed Registered Agent in Mauritius to act as an intermediary with the local authorities.
Can an AC access Double Taxation Agreements (DTAAs)? +
No. Because an AC is tax-exempt and not considered a tax resident of Mauritius, it cannot obtain a Tax Residency Certificate (TRC) and therefore does not qualify for DTAA benefits.
